A survey carried out by FecomercioSP revealed that, in October, the optimism of the business community in São Paulo improved in the wake of the granting of social benefits boosted in an election year and the fall in inflation and unemployment.
The Icec (Commerce Entrepreneur Confidence Index), monitored by the entity, grew 3.5%, from 118 points in September to 122 points in the last month.
In the assessment of Fábio Pina, the entity’s economic advisor, the result is linked to a set of factors, such as the recovery of the service sector and the BC’s interest rate adjustment to prevent an even greater rise in inflation, in addition to measures such as Brazil Aid.
The economist says that the Lula government, even if it keeps the promises of the electoral campaign, will need to pay attention to public accounts.
“I imagine that the poorest consumer is waiting for the aid to be maintained and the minimum wage increased. This increase, even if it comes, should not be a big thing. It helps in retail, but it won’t make all the difference. organize public accounts, have a macroeconomic model of sustainable growth and then we can continue to generate employment”, says Pina.
Monitoring by FecomercioSP also pointed to a 3% increase in businessmen’s future expectations. The same positive variation was registered in merchants’ intention to expand business. According to Pina, the October survey has not yet been able to feel the impact of Lula’s victory in the elections.
