The CVM (Comissão de Valores Mobiliários) asked Qualicorp, administrator of health plans, for explanations about oscillations considered atypical by the regulator in the negotiations of the company’s shares in recent days.
The company was founded by José Seripieri Junior, who sold all his shares in 2020. There is a sealing agreement, according to which Seripieri cannot even acquire a single share of Qualicorp. He currently owns QSaúde, which sells individual plans.
Even so, according to brokerage analysts, the suspicion is that the closeness of the businessman to the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), has affected not only Seripieri’s businesses, but those of the sector.
According to B3, Qualicorp’s common shares were quoted at R$5.82 on November 17. The following day, it was trading at R$6.02 and led the rises on the stock exchange, alongside Hapvida, its main competitor.
Friend of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Seripieri and the president-elect were the target of criticism for the ride given by the businessman in his jet so that the PT participant could participate in the COP27, in Egypt.
According to the CVM, on November 3, Qualicorp shares were quoted at R$8.10 with 9,782 trades. On November 17th, until 5:50 pm, the common shares [com direito a voto] closed at R$5.82 and the trading volume was 16.8 thousand operations.
In the last week, however, Qualicorp recovered part of the accumulated losses in the period indicated by the CVM.
In a response sent to the CVM on Friday (18), Carlos de Almeida Vasques de Carvalho Neto, financial director of Qualicorp, told the CVM that the company is not aware of “any information pending disclosure that could justify price fluctuations and negotiations” .
Qualicorp told the CVM that it “inquired its administrators” and they claimed to be unaware of “any acts or facts that could justify the fluctuations mentioned above, in addition to the information already made public”.
