EU: On the calendar again the decisions on energy – New extraordinary Council on December 13

On December 13, the new extraordinary Energy Council will take place, according to diplomatic sources.

The presidency of the Commission during its initial position proposed the new council on December 13, when it was informed of the outcome of the coordinating meeting of the “15” convened by Hellas.

There everyone agreed to demand the simultaneous adoption of the three regulations in an extraordinary council on 13/12 without a political agreement on the first two, but to freeze the texts as they are, as they are considered basically satisfactory until the talks on the regulation on the ceiling.

In the discussion that followed from the “15” only France and Portugal they limited themselves to accepting the presidency’s proposal without voluntarily demanding the adoption of the three texts as a package on 12/13.

THE Latvia he said he could accept that a political agreement had been reached on them without supporting their adoption.

THE Germany stated that he accepts the presidency’s proposal for the simultaneous adoption of the three texts in a new extraordinary council on December 13, provided that the safeguards adopted by the European Council are respected.

He added that he considered the texts of the two regulations as fixed and pledged to negotiate in good faith on the third one for the ceiling in view of the new emergency council.

Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, Ireland expressed their opposition to the non-adoption of the first two regulations.

Cyprus supported the approach proposed by the presidency.
