Panel SA: Favelas prepare bank and carrier IPO

by

Gilson Rodrigues is president of G10 Favelas, a block of leaders and entrepreneurs that operates in more than 180 communities in the country. This Tuesday (6th), he and his group will be at B3 in a symbolic ceremony: the ringing of the bell, which marks the IPO of a company, will represent the meeting of entrepreneurs from the communities with the financial market.

“You can bet, in two and a half years, two of our companies will go public on the B3”, said Rodrigues to the Panel SA

At the pace at which the two companies move forward, it is not to be doubted.

During the pandemic, the G-10 launched one of them — the Favela Brasil Express. The logistics company makes deliveries to residents of ten communities in the country because, through e-commerce sites, they are unable to receive the goods at their homes – the address is not valid.

When purchasing through traditional chains, community residents enter the address of the Favela Brasil Express center, which delivers the product to the buyer.

“Last year’s revenue was R$ 7 million and, this year, we should double it”, said Rodrigues.
Last year, the company carried out an “IPO in the favela” —it received funds from residents who, in return, were remunerated at 3.86% per year, more than savings, for example.

The group also has a bank, G10 Bank. It started offering loans and, as of December 15, it will become a digital bank, opening current accounts across the country.

At B3, the group will meet with investors to show that the favelas are a business hub like any other and that they give results.

In July, the entourage went to the USA and rang the bell of the New York Stock Exchange (USA).

During the event, the Brazilian Stock Exchange will donate R$ 1 million in food baskets to the Christmas Without Hunger campaign.

The idea of the project is “to transform exclusion into successful startups and social impact ventures”. The objective is not to collect donations or sponsorship, but investments that generate both return to the investor and the economic development of the communities.

The group operates in 181 communities in 9 states (SP, RJ, MG, MA, DF, ES, PE, PA, AM). Among them are:
Paraisópolis, Heliópolis, Jardim Ângela and Guaianases (SP); Rocinha, Morro do Alemão, Maré and Vigário Geral (RJ); Agglomerate da Serra (MG); Rising Sun (DF).
