Japan v Croatia in first extra time of the World Cup

The dispute between the Japanese and Croatians was tied 1-1 in normal time and was extended by the first extension of the 2022 World Cup, this Monday (5).

Counting this one, there have been 72 extensions since the first edition of the tournament, in 1930. Of these, 30 came to penalty shootouts. If the match remains tied, Japan and Croatia will also debut penalties in Qatar.

The two editions with the most extensions were Brazil, in 2014, and Italy, in 1990, with 8 each.

This Monday’s game decides the opponent of Brazil or South Korea, who play still today, at 16h.
