The Senate approved this Wednesday (7) the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) that expands the spending ceiling and makes it possible to fulfill the promises of the elected government from 2023, such as payments of R$ 600 from Bolsa Família.
The Transition PEC was approved with changes in relation to what Lula’s team (PT) tried to articulate: the project received a two-year term, shorter than the PT wanted, and has an impact of R$ 145 billion annually —R $30 billion less than what had been presented by the proposal’s rapporteur.
The text also provides for an additional BRL 23 billion for investments outside the ceiling in case of extraordinary revenue collection – and opens a gap for the release of federal funds for the payment of rapporteur amendments later this year.
Now, the project needs the approval of the Chamber of Deputies.
In this Thursday’s (8th) episode, Café da Manhã talks to a reporter from Sheet Alexa Solomon. She explains the changes made to the PEC and analyzes what the Senate vote means for the elected government.
