Auxílio Brasil and Vale-gás for December start to be paid; see calendar and who is entitled

This Monday (12) the Brazil Aid and Vale-Gás for December will begin to be paid. Due to Christmas, this month installments will begin to be deposited earlier and payment will be finalized on the 23rd.

According to data from the Ministry of Citizenship, the number of families benefiting from Auxílio Brasil this month increased by 67,000 compared to November, reaching the mark of 21.6 million beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries of Vale-Gás, however, decreased from 5.98 million in October to 5.95 million in December.

Who has the right?

Families in a situation of extreme poverty, that is, who have a monthly per capita family income of up to R$ 105, or families in a situation of poverty, who have a monthly family income per capita between R$ 105 and R$ 105, are entitled to receive the Brazil Aid. $210.

Vale-Gás, which has existed since December 2021, can be paid to families with per capita family income less than or equal to half a minimum wage (R$ 606 this year). The amount received by the Brazil Aid is not considered in the calculation.

To receive it, beneficiaries need to have their registration updated in CadÚnico (Cadastro Único of the federal government).

What amount will be paid?

The average amount paid to Auxílio Brasil beneficiary families is R$ 607. The total amount invested by the government in this income transfer program reaches R$ 13 billion. The original value is BRL 400, but since August, in an electoral measure, these families receive a complement of BRL 200

This month, however, the aid amount may be lower for those who took out the payroll loan: the discount can reach R$ 240.

The Gas Voucher will be R$ 112. The value of the benefit is defined according to the average price of a 13 kg cylinder in the previous six months. The survey is carried out by the ANP (National Agency for Gas, Petroleum and Biofuels).

The amount can be withdrawn, with the Citizen’s Card, at the Caixa Econômica Federal branch or at lottery outlets. Money can also be moved through the Caixa Tem app.

Future of benefit

Despite the record number of beneficiaries of Auxílio Brasil in December, in Facebook groups there are reports of problems and insecurity regarding the future of the program. Many families that updated their records at Cras (Social Assistance Reference Centers) had the benefit blocked for reanalysis and do not know when they will receive it again. They comment on the fear of having their income cut.

Last Wednesday (7), the Senate plenary approved the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) of the Transition, considered essential by President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to guarantee the maintenance of the value of R$ 600 for the beneficiaries from Brazil Aid. The proposal was approved with a score of 64 to 13.
