Gasoline price cut has not yet reached the pumps, says ANP

Consumers who bought fuel last week practically did not feel the effects of the cuts promoted by Petrobras in its refineries on the 7th. According to the ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels), both gasoline and diesel were practically stable.

Gasoline was sold at Brazilian service stations, on average, at R$ 5.01 per liter, a decrease of only 0.4% compared to R$ 5.03 in force the previous week. The price of diesel fell even less, 0.3%, to R$ 6.53 per liter.

On the last 7th, Petrobras reduced its average fuel selling price by 6.1%, to the lowest value since the end of September 2021, following the fall in international oil prices. Diesel was reduced by 8.2%.

After six weeks of increases pressured by the rise in the price of anhydrous ethanol, the price of gasoline enters the third week of relative stability. Even so, the bias is downward, since the transfer must be perceived by the agency in this week’s survey.

Data collection is done at the beginning of the week, before the readjustment, and the stations usually wait for the renewal of stocks to reduce their prices – which does not always occur in times of highs.

The drop in gasoline and diesel refinery prices helps the elected government, which has to decide on the resumption of federal tax collection on the two fuels on the first day of office, since the law that cut taxes expires at the end of the year.

Last week, the transition team stated that the decision will depend on how the prices of the products will be. “We are waiting to see the evolution of the scenario”, said on Thursday (8) the coordinator of the technical groups of the transition cabinet, former minister Aloizio Mercadante.

Market estimates indicate that there is still room for further price cuts, as oil continues to operate below US$ 80 (R$ 426) per barrel.

According to Abicom (Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers), the average price of gasoline in Brazilian refineries is 9%, or R$ 0.26 per liter, above the import parity, an indicator that simulates how much it would cost to import the product. Diesel is 6%, or R$ 0.26 per liter, more expensive.

According to the ANP, the price of hydrous ethanol was also relatively stable, closing the week at R$3.84 per liter, against R$3.85 registered in the previous week.

The price of cooking gas, on the other hand, rose by R$0.22, to R$107.99 per 13-kilogram cylinder, without also suffering the impact of the cut promoted by Petrobras. On Thursday (8), the product was 9.8% cheaper at Petrobras refineries.
