Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos (ITA) informed this Monday (20) that the temporary suspension of its activities, announced last Friday, affected a total of 45,887 passengers who had contracted services between the date of the announcement and December 31st. Of these, around 25,000 have already had requests for re-accommodation or reimbursement, according to the company.
In order to speed up the fulfillment of requests, ITA added the “Reimbursement” tab, which provides a form for requesting the service, on its website. The payment term is up to 30 days.
The company also provided a chat and telephone number (0800 723 2121) to serve customers affected by the suspension, operating between 6 am and 9 pm, but claims that, due to the high demand, there may be a longer-than-expected delay in the service. Initially, ITA had provided only one email channel for requests.
The company advises passengers not to check in online or go to airports before contacting the company.
ITA states that customers who are still in their city of residence with flights scheduled from this Monday will only be served with a full refund of the amounts paid for the services.
Those who are away from home and who have previously traveled with ITA must contact the company’s service channels to request re-accommodation back to their original destinations.
The Itapemirim Group says it is also using its road transport company, Viação Itapemirim, to re-accommodate passengers.
ITA also claims that it is working on its restructuring to resume operations as soon as possible.
On Monday, the São Paulo Procon notified the ITA of the suspension of flights. The entity requires the relocation of passengers on other flights or the immediate reimbursement of all consumers who are unable to be relocated within a maximum period of five days, according to Fernando Capez, executive director of Procon-SP. The fine can reach R$ 11 million.
The organization also says that it intends to file a collective civil action for moral and material damages against the company.
Regarding the notification, ITA stated in a note that it has spared no efforts to assist passengers impacted by the temporary suspension of its operations and that it has already received representatives of Organs inspection bodies at its headquarters to provide all the clarifications.
