In an attempt at conciliation, Josué says that unions will have more space at Fiesp

The president of Fiesp (Federation of Industries of São Paulo), Josué Gomes, held his first meeting this Monday (23) since the opposition to his management voted for his dismissal. At the meeting, he guaranteed that the unions will have more space in the superior councils and departments of the entity and hinted at the possibility of seeking a conciliation.

At the meeting, the leader did not speak about the extraordinary assembly, nor about the disclosure by the opposition, on Friday (20), that Elias Miguel Haddad, the oldest among the 21 vice-presidents of Fiesp, aged 95, would have taken office. interim.

Josué Gomes, who until then had kept a low profile about the federation’s internal rebellion, reacted with a public note in which he called the assembly that voted for his removal clandestine.

The tone of the conversation this Monday was one of trying to calm tempers, say leaders. The meeting was called to discuss a governance committee. The idea of creating a working group to discuss improvements in the relationship between Fiesp and the unions was presented during an extraordinary general meeting held by the entity on the 16th.

The invitation to the meeting was sent to all of the more than one hundred unions affiliated with Fiesp. Those who participated estimated the participation of around 50 directors from approximately 30 entities.

“It was a very calm meeting, in the sense of saying what we have to do to return to having a great understanding in the house. Mistakes were made, we all know that there were and we all have complaints to make, but that does not mean that it is to be taken an attitude as irreversible as removing a president”, said Humberto Barbato, president of Abinee (Brazilian Association of the Electric and Electronic Industry).

The composition of the departments and superior councils is one of the points of dissatisfaction of the opposition with Josué’s management. In Barbato’s assessment, increasing the presence of professionals appointed by the unions in these instances can provide greater balance to the work carried out.

The problem, he said, was not the people in departments or boards, but the fact that most of them were outside the industry. During the meeting, according to Barbato, a suggestion was made that Josué talk to Paulo Skaf, a former president who was in charge of the organization for 17 years.

Skaf is pointed out as a supporter of the unions’ rebellion against Josué Gomes. His allies say he was approached by dissatisfied trade unionists when the relationship with the new president had already collapsed. The former president of Fiesp was contacted, but did not respond.

For Paulo Camillo Pena, from Snic (National Union of the Cement Industry), the search for convergence guided this Monday’s discussions. “The conversation there was to look for ways to bring up the important topics for discussion and also be able to count on the participation of this group that has been placing itself in the opposition”, he said.

“Josué positioned himself as the person who will effectively seek out these people to seek convergence in this debate.” Improvement in governance, the original theme of the meeting, is yet to be discussed again at a new meeting in 15 or 20 days.

Before that, next Monday, the board of Fiesp will receive the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad.

Since the assembly held on the 16th, Fiesp has been experiencing a kind of war of versions about the presidency. The dismissal vote took place when at least 30 delegates had already left the Fiesp building.

For the unions that voted for the dismissal of the current president, Josué Gomes no longer commands the entity since Friday, when Elias Miguel Haddad communicated to unions and employees that he had taken office on an interim basis.

Over the weekend, Fiesp released letters of support for Josué sent by members of higher councils, such as those for legal studies, creative economy and infrastructure. This Monday, it was the turn of CNI (National Confederation of Industry), which in a letter signed by Robson Andrade, president of the entity, affirmed “unrestricted and unconditional support for the permanence of businessman Josué Gomes da Silva” at Fiesp.

Leaders linked to the opposition to Josué reported this Monday that they were in “waiting mode” and were already talking about the possibility of a conciliation. The waving of the white flag, however, would need to come from Joshua, they say.
