“When measures are announced that limit the business capabilities of companies, there should be similar support actions.”
This is stated in a statement on the new measures by the president of the Central Union of Chambers and the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Giannis Chatzitheodosiou.
Specifically, the president stated:
The protection of public health is an obligation of every benevolent state and every measure taken in this direction, we agree. Moreover, chambers and companies have proved in practice that our main priority is the health of the citizens and we have supported with all our might the vaccinations.
But we must not forget that when measures are announced that limit the ability of companies to operate, there should be similar support actions. So from the moment that the public interest imposes new restrictions in an effort to stop the Omicron mutation, it is the obligation of the State to stand by those who are affected by the implementation of the measures. Especially when it comes to industries that have been hit hard by the economic consequences of the pandemic, such as catering, which is once again being influenced by government strategy.
Already, before the announcement of the measures, about half of the companies in the sector saw their future as bleak, as the findings of a relevant survey showed. It is therefore understood how much more difficult the situation becomes with the new measures. So for the focus, which continues to be in the “eye of the storm”, the chamber community considers necessary the abolition of the return of the Refundable Advance, the postponement of the obligations of the companies in the sector, the strengthening of their liquidity through financial instruments and the reduction of VAT.
The struggle of companies and professionals who have been affected by the consequences of the pandemic, takes place under extremely adverse conditions and at an operating cost that has been “launched” due to the wave of price increases. Further deterioration is forecast in this area, as we estimate that inflation will rise further, affecting the overall operation of the market.
So in order to avoid total disaster for the businesses of the industries that continue to be affected, it is necessary to rely on them here and now. “There is neither time nor other endurance.”
