PPC’s tariff for May is 15.9 cents per kilowatt-hour for consumption up to 500 kilowatt-hours (up from 16.5 cents in April) and 17.1 cents for consumption over 500 kilowatt-hours (up from 17.7 cents in April). For nighttime electricity, the charge will be 11.8 cents, up from 12.4 where it was in April.
A further reduction to 15.9 cents per kilowatt hour for the May electricity tariff, PPC announced on Thursday. The price of electricity from the largest supplier falls very close to the government’s target level with subsidies given each month, which means the need for a subsidy for the next month – as long as the end consumer price target remains the same – is minimized.
In particular, the PPC tariff for May is 15.9 cents per kilowatt-hour for consumption up to 500 kilowatt-hours (versus 16.5 cents in April) and 17.1 cents for consumption over 500 kilowatt-hours (from 17.7 cents in April) . For nighttime electricity, the charge will be 11.8 cents, up from 12.4 where it was in April.
The state subsidy for April, it is recalled, was 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, with the result that the final charge for the first 500 kilowatt-hours is 15 cents. The announcements of the other suppliers for the tariffs that will come into force in May are awaited.
