The old arm wrestling of defenders of a tunnel against their opponents who prefer a bridge to connect Santos to Guarujá may receive strong support from Bolsonaro.
Representatives of the companies that articulate in the movement called Vou de Túnel say they have received from the president a promise that he will participate in a major event of the group this year, the 1st Forum Vou de Túnel de Túnel de Mobilidade Urbana, to be held in March, in saints.
It would be, in the opinion of businessmen in favor of the tunnel, another sign of support from the government.
Organized by the Vou de Túnel campaign, the forum will bring together authorities and specialists to extol the advantages of the work for the growth of business in the port of Santos and in the region.
According to the businessmen, confirmation of their presence was made this week during a meeting between Bolsonaro at Palácio do Planalto with Eliézer Giroux, who is a former member of the board of ABTP (association of port terminals) and is part of the group of supporters of the Vou de Tunnel, in which Minister Tarcísio de Freitas (Infrastructure) also participated. Sought by the SA Panel, the Presidency’s advisory did not respond.
The Ministry of Infrastructure says it also received the invitation. The minister has made signs of support in recent years, even saying that a bridge does not match a port.
Last month, the board of the PPI (Investment Partnership Program), made up of the President of the Republic, ministers and presidents of state-owned banks, approved the inclusion of the tunnel project in the PPI.
Bolsonaro’s leading role in the dispute in Santos would be another stage of rivalry with his political opponent João Doria, since the toucan government in São Paulo, which prefers the bridge, defends an alternative to reconcile the two projects.
