The Minister of Development, Mr. Kostas Skrekas will hold a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., in order to specify the measures to protect consumers, the orderly functioning of the market and to deal with unfair commercial practices and cases of speculation. The minister will announce interventions for the household and student basket, in order to mitigate the wave of precision hitting the market.

The Deputy Ministers, Mr. Maximos Senetakis and Ms. Anna Mani-Papadimitriou, the General Secretary of Trade & Consumer Protection, Mr. Sotiris Anagnostopoulos and the Commander of the Inter-Service Market Control Unit (DIMEA), Mr. Charalambos Melissinos will participate.

The press conference will take place in room 305, on the 3rd floor of the Ministry of Development (Nikis 5-7, 101 80 Athens).

“The household basket is a measure that has worked well. In the student’s basket we will also announce some statistical data related to the large volume of sales. We saw that it really helped keep a lot of code stable and reduced. We also had an increase in codes, but it was the ones that might be special, it might be the fashion codes, expensive products and so on.

But in the basic products in the mobile products that a student would have to buy, a household would have to buy for the student to use, we’ve seen a stabilization or a decrease in prices.

Checks are made on all the codes at all supplier companies that sell such school supplies. Where violations are found, there will be severe fines which will be announced,” said Mr Minister of Development on ERT.
