The Parliament’s Expenditure Budget Plan, Fiscal Year 2024, was accepted, by a majority, by the Parliament’s Expenditure Budget Plan, Fiscal Year 2024. The Parliament’s Expenditure Report, Fiscal Year 2022 and its Expenditure was also approved by a majority (2022 Report of the Foundation’s activities Parliament for Parliamentaryism and Democracy).

As the speaker of the Parliament, K. Tasoulas, pointed out, the cost of running the parliament does not exceed two thousandths of the state expenses, which “refutes the exaggerations that the Parliament is a wasteful and luxurious affair, which needs outcry and disapproval ». He also reminded that part of the sums, which come from the Parliament’s cost savings, are channeled into social, national and cultural benefits, such as the creation of 50 ICU beds at the “Sotiria” hospital.

In particular, for the new budget of the Parliament, amounting to 159.4 million euros, the president of the Parliament noted that it is up 7% compared to the previous one, i.e. by 10.5 million euros. This amount, he added, is completely justified mainly because of the new uniform payroll of the State which will be implemented from 1/1/2024, pursuant to law 5045/2023 for civil servants, while we have revaluations goods and services, expenses of various other activities, in such a way that all of these add up to the 7% increase.

At the same time, he noted that there are spending cuts“due to successful negotiations”, such as the EUR 400,000 reduction in MPs’ air ticket expenses, which was achieved after negotiations with airlines, or the EUR 200,000 reduction in landline charges, which was also achieved after negotiations with the companies that provide the parliament with telephone services.
