The shopping mall market plans to resume the pace of openings of its ventures, which plummeted after the coronavirus crisis.
13 new malls are expected this year, according to Abrasce, an industry association, which brings together more than 600 shopping centers in the country.
The pace of openings dropped from 11 new malls in 2019, with a gross leasable area of over 210,000 square meters, to seven in 2020, the year the pandemic began.
In 2021, when the sector still suffered the effects of circulation restrictions before entering the most positive scenario provided by vaccination, five malls were opened, with a gross leasable area of around 111 thousand square meters.
The sales level, although still 17% below the pre-pandemic reality, reacted last year. The increase in shopping center billing was almost 24% in 2021 compared to 2020.
