Stock Exchange: Closing with a big drop of 6.42% – The General Index “extinguished” the profits of 2022

The fall in stock prices at today’s session of the Stock Exchange took on “sell-off” dimensions, amid a negative climate in the international markets, in the aftermath of the military operation launched by Russia against Ukraine.

The sellers were targeted by the bank shares, which recorded the biggest profits since the beginning of 2022, while the turnover moved to high levels.

The market broke down the levels of 900 and 890 points, “erasing” the profits recorded since the beginning of 2022, while today “lost” 4.2 billion euros from the total market capitalization.

The General Price Index closed at 888.31 points, down 6.42%. Intra-conference, it recorded a lower price at 882.77 points (-7.00%). From the beginning of the year it declines by 0.56%. The value of the transactions amounted to 163.194 million euros, while 67,872,125 shares were traded.

The large-cap index declined by 6.63%, while the mid-cap index declined by 6.46%. All high-capitalization shares lost and the biggest drop was recorded by the shares of Saranti (-12.82%), Eurobank (-10.80%), Piraeus (-10.53%), Viohalco (-10 , 35%), Aegean Airlines (-8.72%) and Coca Cola HBC (-8.54%).

All sub-indices moved downwards and the biggest losses were recorded by the indices of Raw Materials (-9.70%), Banks (-8.88%) and Food (-8.49%). Alpha Bank Eurobank presented the largest volume of transactions, circulating 16,057,273 and 15,584,331 shares, respectively. The highest value of transactions was recorded by NBG with 20.881 million euros and Alpha Bank with 20.011 million euros.

Just one stock managed to close with an increase (Nakas + 1.82%), while 136 moved downwards and 7 remained stable. The biggest drop was recorded by the shares: Frigoglass -17.18% Lavipharm -16.28%.
