May 2024 closed with an overall increase in exports compared to last May, according to the provisional data announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and processed by the Institute of Export Research and Studies SEVE.
More specifically, these reached 4,159.4 million euros compared to 4,082.3 million euros in May 2023 and the increase was 77.1 million euros, i.e. 1.9%.
The imports, also, they increased by 481.8 million (ie 6.8%) and amounted to €7,549.4 million. The result of the above is the increase in the trade deficit by €404.7 million (i.e. 13.6%) and its formation at €3,390.0 million.
Excluding petroleum products, the picture of exports is reduced by 212.7 million euros (ie 6.8%) with their final value reaching 2,916.4 million euros, while at the same time imports also decrease by exactly the same percentage ( 6.8%) and with a final value of 5,137.1 million euros The trade deficit in this case improves by 160.4 million euros (i.e. 6.7%) and amounts to 2,220.7 million euros
Exports for the period January – May 2024 are reduced by 4.5%, i.e. 983.6 million euros, compared to the corresponding period of 2023, with their value reaching 20,970.7 million euros. Conversely, the Greek imports are up by 2.6%, i.e. 899.9 million euros and amount to 35,390.7 million euros.
At the sectoral level, the consistently positive course of food and beverages-tobacco continues, with increases in both sectors and also in that of the unclassified. More specifically, an increase of 9.2% was presented by the food sector, reaching 3,437.9 million euros throughout the period January-May 2024, while the beverage – tobacco sector reached 570.5 million euros with an increase of 10, 2%. That of unclassified products showed an increase of 313.0%, reaching 226.1 million euros
A decrease is observed in all other sectors, with a downward trend in exports in the petroleum sector (6,559.7 million euros, i.e. 4.6%), industrial (2,952.1 million euros, i.e. 10.9%), chemicals ( 2,609.7 million euros, i.e. 4.2%), machinery and vehicles (1,977.4 million euros, i.e. 8.7%), miscellaneous industrial goods (1,448.4 million euros, i.e. 3.2%) , raw materials (735.8 million euros, i.e. 5.2%), fats and oils (452.9 million euros, i.e. 47.4%)
