The president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vassilis Korkidis sent seven proposals to strengthen domestic entrepreneurship and the development of the economy to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In the proposals, among other things, it is pointed out that entrepreneurship wishes to improve government vigilance, so that in the next three years every challenge of everyday life can be dealt with faster and in the best possible way, and the importance of accelerating the reforms that have been planned is underlined.

As the chamber underlines in its announcement, for the second consecutive year it has chosen not to submit financial requests with budgetary costs, but seven proposals of entrepreneurship, which can improve the competitiveness of Greek businesses, simplify procedures, facilitate everyday life, highlight the abilities of extroversion, to create jobs of high standards and pay, but also to shape a new perception in the business community and to achieve a competitive mix in the Greek economy.

Noting that the ideal mix of fiscal margins and economic benefits is difficult to find in a way that satisfies everyone’s needs, the EBEP, addressing the Prime Minister, states with certainty that the need to examine improving interventions in taxation, energy costs, the strengthening of exports, attracting investments, improving the development law, expanding the financing perimeter of SMEs, housing, reforming benefits, supporting vulnerable groups, flood and fire victims, increasing wages and pensions, as well as strengthening the disposable income to address punctuality.

The seven propositions

The seven proposals of the EBEP are the following:

1) Support of the shipbuilding industry with European competitive conditions

2) Highlighting the transit and export work of Greek ports

3) Cadastre of Business Parks and improvement of “green” infrastructure

4) Strengthening the blue economy through spatial and urban planning

5) Priority in investments in distribution networks and power storage systems

6) Creation of “smart cargo drone ports”

7) Provision of “free bonus” to employees.

In his statement, the president of EBEP, Vassilis Korkidis, states:

“We recognize that we are experiencing a permanent, difficult situation in our international, European and geopolitical environment, with many, serious, critical and open fronts, which are creating strong upheavals in our country. However, we must point out honestly and without any oppositional mood, since this is not our role, that, in the period between the parliamentary and European elections, there were irregularities and delays in the reform schedule.

Entrepreneurship wishes to improve government vigilance, so that in the next three years it can face every challenge of our daily life faster and in the best possible way. The productive classes of the country expect from the step of this year’s TIF that you analyze the governmental triptych, which you defined and which refers to accountability, prioritization and efficiency.

We also expect you to present the immediate and future actions that will lead us to the successful completion of the planned projects and reforms until 2027. We are convinced that our economy will continue its optimistic course and that our country can only converge with the EU with good planning, correct decisions and costed announcements. Entrepreneurship and everyday life are interrelated concepts, in a cyclical, economic environment, where political intersections of a decisive nature are the ones that shape and determine the parameters of sustainable development.

We understand that the ideal mix of fiscal margins and financial benefits is difficult to find in a way that satisfies everyone’s needs. Indeed, the effort to meet the growing needs of vulnerable social groups is made more difficult by the test of the climate crisis and the urgent need for emergency support measures. However, we are sure that you have identified the need to consider improving interventions in taxation, energy costs, boosting exports, attracting investment, improving the development law, widening the perimeter of SME financing, housing, reform of benefits, supporting vulnerable groups, flood and fire victims, increasing wages and pensions, as well as strengthening disposable income to deal with punctuality.

This year, our chamber has chosen not to submit financial requests with budgetary costs, but seven proposals from business people, which can improve the competitiveness of Greek businesses, simplify procedures, facilitate everyday life, highlight extroversion skills, shape a new perception in the business community and to achieve a competitive mix in the Greek economy”.
