Increases in average earnings range up to 46% compared to September 2019 – Full-time workers receive an average salary of €1,433
The majority of workers in our country see significant increases in wages, according to the data of the Information System “ERGANI».
Indicative is the fact that, for the month of September 2024, in the 20 industries with the largest employment, increases in average earnings range from 12% to 46% compared to September 2019, at a time when contract workers full-time workers today receive 1,433 euros on average.
At the same time, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security assures that the government’s commitment to a minimum wage of 950 euros and an average wage of 1,500 euros will be fully respected until 2027, while it will incorporate into national law a European directive, based on which, from here and henceforth, no reductions will be allowed, only increases in the minimum wage
The amount of wages in the top 20 sectors with the greatest employment
Based on the available data, in September 2024, 2,830,818 workers were employed with wage labor contracts (full, part-time and rotating), with an average salary per worker at 1,252 euros (total for full-time and part-time contracts). It is noted that the amounts are mixed.
From the comparison of the data of P.S. “ERGANI” for September 2024 compared to the corresponding month of 2019 shows that wages increased overall, while much of the increase in wages is affected by the increase in the minimum wage.
The 10 industries with the most employees
The “scepters” in salary increases are held by the catering industry, which recorded a 46% increase in average wages in September 2024 compared to September 2019.
Rental and leasing activities followed with a 35% increase, while average salaries in the sectors of building and outdoor services, legal and accounting activities and personal services (e.g. barbershops, hairdressers, dry cleaners, care centers).
Average earnings in the motor vehicle and motorcycle repair industry stood at 1,120 euros in September of this year from 848 euros in September 2019, showing an increase of 32%.
The increase in average wages in retail reached 30%, reaching 952 euros compared to 732 euros in September 2019.
Average salaries in the headquarters and management consulting industry showed an incremental percentage change of 29%, with the average salary reaching €1,556 in September 2024 compared to €1,203 in September 2019.
To €1,045, average earnings in the specialized construction activities sector increased from €818, which was in September 2019, marking an increase of 28%.
Workers in the food industry and computer programming & consulting sectors also saw a 23% increase in average wages, with average salaries reaching 1,120 euros and 2,186 euros respectively.
The increase in average salaries in wholesale trade reached 22%, with the average salary being 1,349 euros in the current month, while the average salary in the accommodation sector is 1,161 euros, with an incremental percentage change of 21% compared to September 2019.
It is pointed out that in some branches the average monthly earnings fall short of the minimum wage. This is because the average is calculated based on the total number of employees, which includes part-time and rotating workers.
The 10 industries with the biggest wage growth, excluding industries with fewer than 10,000 workers
In the 10 sectors with the highest wages, in which a total of 255,127 workers are employed, i.e. 9% of workers in the private sector, average monthly salaries exceed 1,500 euros, while in the first five sectors they exceed 2,000 euros. These include, but are not limited to, financial services, telecommunications, scientific research and development and distillery. In first place are financial services, with average monthly earnings of 2,648 euros.
