The first liquefied natural gas (LNG) gasification station was put into operation to supply a High Efficiency Cogeneration of Electricity and Heat (CHP) unit, which was designed and implemented by DEPA Emporias in Dimitra Serronexpanding the network of small-scale liquefied natural gas (ssLNG) facilities that bring the benefits of natural gas to remote areas and off-pipeline customers.

In particular, as announced by the company, the installation, which was designed and completed by DEPA Emporias, was made for the purpose of supplying the greenhouse of the company Dimitra Sun EE in Dimitra Serres, paving the way for the connection of a production unit remote from the gas network of the primary sector, which uses SITHYA to meet its thermal needs. This particular application is an important step for the supply of industries that are outside the natural gas network.

“This supply is part of DEPA Emporia’s strategy for the arrival of natural gas throughout Greece, especially in the most remote areas, which are not connected to the national transmission network, supporting the country’s green transition and climate goals. As part of this strategy, the filling of the Liquefied Natural Gas Storage and Gasification Station in Kastoria took place last month, which paved the way for supplying the areas of Kastoria and Argos Orestikos, while by the end of 2024, Florina and the Industrial Area of Patras. The application of SITHYA technology in the agricultural sector, specifically in greenhouses, offers significant benefits by reducing energy costs, increasing the productivity of crops”, emphasizes DEPA Emporias.

The head of the CNG/ssLNG department of DEPA Emporia, Petros Panou, said:

“DEPA Emporias continues to offer modern, efficient and environmentally friendly energy solutions, constantly strengthening the small-scale LNG network that transports natural gas to industrial customers who do not have access to the natural gas network. Today’s connection is the first important step for the development of greenhouses off the natural gas network, offering them low energy costs, increasing productivity and reducing their environmental footprint.”

For his part, the representative of the company Dimitra Sun EE said:

“Our collaboration with DEPA Emporias is a milestone for the development of our unit. The use of natural gas through SITHYA enables us to reduce our operating costs, improve the quality of our crops and contribute to the reduction of pollutant emissions. We hope that this example will be a guide for the wider use of SITHYA technology in the agricultural sector”
