The founder of the Spanish clothing chain Mango, Isak Adik died at noon on Saturday in an accident on the mountain in Collbató in Barcelonaaccording to BBC.

Adic, the richest man in Catalonia, breathed his last after falling into a ravine near the Montserrat massif. The 71-year-old businessman, mountain and hiking enthusiast was in the area for recreation with family members. At 12:30 noon on Saturday, his relatives called 112, asking for help. A helicopter and an ambulance were sent to the scene, but when rescuers arrived at the scene, they confirmed his death, according to Spanish media.

According to police, his son Jonathan was present at the time of the accident. Doctors provided psychological support to the family, which is in a state of shock. The path where the accident happened is known for its steep gradients in some places.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Adik, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango, in an accident that occurred this Saturday,” said the fashion company’s chief executive, Tony Ruith.

“His loss leaves a huge void, but all of us are, in some way, his legacy and testimony to his achievements. It is up to us, and this is the best tribute we can pay Isaac, to ensure that Mango continues to be the project he aspired to and would be proud of,” added Ruith.

Adik founded Mango in Barcelona in 1984 and the chain now operates in 120 countries. He was the richest man in Catalonia with an estimated fortune of €4.5 billion.

The president of Catalonia’s government, Salvador Illa, said he was “shocked by the loss” and described Adik as a “dedicated businessman” who “contributed to make Catalonia great and present itself to the world”.
