Support measures for employees in the Municipality of Thira announced by the Ministry of Labor. According to the announcement issued, all private sector employers operating within the boundaries of the Municipality of Thira may place in suspension their employees’ work contracts for the period by February 1 to March 3, 2025.

To protect workers, businesses using the suspension measure are not allowed to make redundancies during the period of suspension.

At the same time, employees whose employment contract is suspended are entitled to Special Purpose Compensation of EUR 534 corresponding to thirty days, in proportion to the days of the suspension of their employment contracts.

Employees in the Municipality of Thira who have been declared an emergency are estimated at around 10,000.

In detail the ministry’s announcement with measures

1. Suspension of employment contracts

Employees whose employment contract is suspended are entitled to compensation of a specific purpose of EUR 534 corresponding to thirty days, in proportion to the days of their suspension of employment contracts. At the same time, complete insurance coverage on the nominal salary as well as the ratio of holiday gifts is ensured. Special purpose compensation is tax -free, unexplained and irreversible, while the expense is fully covered by the state budget. Businesses will be able to submit a responsible statement to the Ministry of Labor’s “ERGANI” information system and notify the relevant protocol to employees. The employees will then submit a responsible statement to the online platform of the Special Employee Support Mechanism (Supportemployees.services.gov.gr) through the single digital portal gov.gr.
