The next summer is expected to be put into operation the electrical interface Crete-Attica that has been in testing phase since the end of 2024.

According to the update from the ADMEafter completing the installation of the conversion plant equipment and the successful test of the entire 500 kV cable system between the two ends of the interconnection, preliminary equipment tests, as well as the operations of the subversion stations, are now completed. In addition, the tests of the electrodes equipment in Stachotorroi Attica and Korakia Heraklion are completed.

Upon completion of equipment tests in the near future, system tests are expected to start, with the integration of the new interface, in collaboration with the ADMIE System Operation and Control Directorate, which is the latest and most critical process before the project is integrated into normal mode.

In the previous days ADMIE officials and the subsidiary company and the implementing body of the Crete-Attica electric interconnection, AriadneinterConnection, carried out an inspection at the Converting Station in Damasta, Heraklion.

The Director General of Operation, Infrastructure and Market Mr. Dimitris Michos, the project manager of Ariadne Interconnection Mr. Angelos Stamatelos, the Director of System Operation and Control Mr. facilities of the new infrastructure, where the tests of Electrical equipment.

The fully digitized substation, manufactured with modern closed-type technology (GIS), is critical for connecting the Converting Stations of the Crete-Attica interconnection with the island’s electricity grid.

According to ADMIE, the implementation of the Crete-Attica interconnection was carried out by world-class contractors such as Siemens Energy, Nexans, Prysmian and NKT, while the two-modern ships worldwide were used to raise the submarine cables.
