Changes to the priorities of Greek workers are demonstrated by new research conducted by Marc on behalf of Papastratos. Fees, balance between professional and personal life and evolution opportunities form a new landscape in workers’ professional aspirations. At the same time, technology and flexibility in forms of employment play a decisive role in shaping the work model of the future. The survey was carried out in a representative sample of 1,053 people 18 to 65 years old and highlights the differences between generations with their expectations and choices.
According to the survey, Greek employees are now more confident than in the past. Labor security, which was once the dominant pursuit, now gives way to the search for better earnings and opportunities for professional development. The economically active population (60.5%) claims a better quality of life through its work and is ready to sacrifice the safety of a stable job, as it can find better -paid work and balance conditions (69.6%). At the same time, the concept of “good business” acquires a multifactorial dimension, as employees evaluate their employers on the basis of many criteria, from the work environment and fair treatment to flexibility and growth prospects.
At the same time, research confirms that flexibility is now an essential element of modern work. 53.5% of employees want a mixed model that combines teleworking and physical presencewhile exclusively living work is preferred by 35%. Gen Z employees (58.2%) lean more towards the choice of a flexible hours, which is determined in collaboration with their employer. At the same time, the majority in each age group show a disposition for working with workers of all ages and not just peers, at 73.5%. It is worth noting, of course, that 1 in 3 representatives of Gen Z (32.6%) say they prefer to work with people of the same age.
The same research shows that employees’ preferences are reshaped. Multinational businesses still have the most popularity, attracting 54.2% of respondents, with Gen Z at a preference of 61.3%. At the same time, the preference for public work is reduced compared to previous years, as only 30.1% of respondents consider it an attractive choice. On the contrary, self -employment is more popular, as 31.7% say they would prefer this form of work. It is also important to find out that 8 out of 10 representatives (78.7%) of Gen Z would consider working abroad if there were better employment conditions. In total respondents this percentage is 68%.
Employees are concerned and expectations about the impact of technology on work. 46.4% believe that new technologies will facilitate professional life, while Gen Z appears the most optimistic generation towards artificial intelligence and its impact on the labor market. However, 42.4% of participants are concerned about possible negative consequences, such as loss of jobs. In any case, 84.3 % of respondents say they are willing to be trained in new technologies, while continuous education and development of new skills are considered critical factors for the professional future, with 71.3 % recognizing the importance of continuous learning.
Summarizing the individual priorities of each generation, Gen Z (up to 27 years old), proposes 73%of work (gain) at 73%, Millennials (28 to 43 years) the pay and balance of professional and personal life, Gen X (44 to 59) qualifies for employment security and BOOMERS (60 to 65). meritocracy-recognition and rewarding their efforts.
