Price increases in a wide range of consumer goods awaits the vast majority of US citizens as a result of President Donald Trump’s decision imposing sweep duties on all imported goods in the US, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

In particular, according to the findings of the three -day poll completed on Sunday, 73% of respondents believe that prices will rise in the next six months in the goods they buy daily, while only 4% responded that prices would retreat. The remaining 23% either do not expect price changes or did not answer the question.

Therefore, it is not the impression that about 57% of respondents, including 1/4 of respondents affiliated with the Republican Party of Trump, said in the new US duties, which include a horizontal tax of at least 10% to the US imported products.

Although 52% of poll participants agree with Trump’s argument that other countries are exploiting the US for trade, only about 39% of respondents are in favor of Trump’s new duties.

Also, 44% of respondents disagree with Trump’s view that the introduction of the new higher duties will lead to the abolition of American manufacturing activity.

An important role in the US attitude towards duties and if they are a right policy, however, it is, as it appears by the poll, their party position. It is indicative that half of the respondents – compressed almost all Republicans – said they agree that “any short -term economic pain is worthwhile to make the US stronger in the long run”. On the contrary, the other half – including almost all democrats – disagreed.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted online and at a Pan -American level, participated in 1,027 adults in the US and had an error margin of about 3 percentage points.
