In a video broadcast at a business forum in the United Arab Emirates, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said that his government will not promote “excessive spending” or “fiscal irresponsibility” this year.
Bolsonaro also said in the video that the need to control inflation should not allow economic growth this year to be at the same level as in 2021, when GDP (Gross Domestic Product) advanced 4.6%.
“The need to control inflation makes it difficult for us to achieve the same result this year,” Bolsonaro declared.
The recorded video was broadcast at the Latin American Global Business Forum.
The event is led by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.
“We know that there is no sustained growth without full control of inflation. We are working with the necessary caution to ensure the continuity of growth over the next few years”, added Bolsonaro.
The speech of the Brazilian president was published by a Bolsonarista website.
“Be safe, there will be no overspending or fiscal irresponsibility.”
The representative’s statements occur amid the advance of prices. The latest market forecast, measured by the Central Bank’s Focus bulletin, is for a variation in the IPCA (Consumer Price Index) which should close this year at 6.59%.
Last year, the index accumulated an advance of 10.06%.
Furthermore, Bolsonaro has been demanding initiatives in search of a popular agenda on the eve of the electoral calendar. Among the priorities are actions that may represent a response to the escalation of inflation.
On Sunday (20), the sheet showed that measures adopted or being prepared this year by the government and Congress with the objective of reducing taxes on different fronts will generate a cost of at least R$ 54.2 billion for the Union, states and municipalities.
In addition to studies on a possible new cut of the IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products), the political class pressures the economic team for measures aimed at fuels.
Last week, Bolsonaro also announced a broad package of measures to release more than R$150 billion in resources to workers and retirees in an election year.
