The European Commission will announce a more detailed strategy for the gradual abolition of Russian oil and gas imports next month, he said Monday, according to Reuters.

The EU is committed to stopping Russian fossil fuels by 2027 in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but the Commission was delayed to publish its “road map” on how to do so. The plan initially had to be completed last month.

The Commission will now publish the “Road Map” on May 6, according to the relevant agenda published on Monday.

The delays were partly due to the uncertainty about the planned duties of US President Donald Trump and the fact that the energy trade potentially affected EU-US trade talks, EU sources said in Reuters.

While gas traditions with Russian pipelines have fallen in 2022, the EU increased imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) last year and the block was still receiving 19% of the total gas supply and LNG from Russia in 2024.

Unlike oil, the EU has not imposed sanctions on imports of Russian gas.

Hungary, for its part, is committed to blocking Russian energy sanctions, which require unanimous approval from EU countries, while some other governments have also shown a reluctance to approve sanctions on Russian LNG before the EU secures alternative supplies.

The Commission did not mention which tools it intends to propose to accelerate the gradual abolition of Russian energy. Analysts of the Bruegel -based Brussels Thought Tank have suggested to the EU to impose duties on imports of Russian gas.

The complete interruption of Russian gas would mean more EU purchases from suppliers, including the United States.

The EU has stated that it would consider buying more LNG from the United States, and Trump said the sale of more energy in Europe would be a major focus of its government’s efforts to eliminate its trade deficit with the EU.

The US LNG has helped to fill the Russian supply gap in Europe during the energy crisis in 2022. Last year, the US was Europe’s third largest gas supplier, after Russia and the leading supplier of Norway.

However, some EU diplomats and diplomats are skeptical that US gas dependence is a vulnerable point, as Trump said the action would be a negotiating element in trade negotiations and Europe has already “paid” Russia in this area.

Russia’s energy plan predicts that crude production will change slightly by 2050

Russia’s new long -term energy strategy sees the production and exports of crude oil change shortly over the next 25 years, as Bloomberg reports.

Its target scenario provides for a production of 540 million tonnes at the end of this decade and also until the middle of the century, according to a document published on Monday.
