Time has been exhausted for US trade partners wishing to close agreements before the July 9th deadline set by US President Trump.

Letters will begin to be sent to countries today Friday to inform them of the tariff rates they will face in imports to the US, which will enter into force on August 1st.

“Until July 9th they will have been sent to everyone,” Trump said, according to Bloomberg. ‘Will range from duties 10% or 20% to 60% or 70% duties’

Trump has so far focused on concluding trade agreements, although he has managed to achieve only three so far.

Finance Minister Scott Bessed said that about 100 partners would probably see a minimum of 10% next week, adding that it expects a “plethora” of agreements to be implemented before the deadline.

How is the situation for the largest US partners

China: The US has loosened export restrictions on China for Chip and Ethane design software, a sign that commercial tensions between the two countries retreat after agreeing in May to proceed to a broader trade agreement. Software companies such as Synopsys and Cadence said they will now sell their chip design tools to Chinese customers. The US also has been restricted to ether exports to China that had just set a few weeks ago, the Yahoo Finance notes.

Vietnam: Trump said on Wednesday that he reached a trade agreement with Vietnam, who would see the country’s imports face 20% – lower than the 46% of threats in April. He also said that Vietnamese products would face a higher 40% duty on any upload – when the goods sent from Vietnam come from another country, such as China. Many American products will not face duties when importing to Vietnam.

Japan: Earlier this week, Trump said the negotiations with Japan had failed, saying it would force the country to accept higher duties “30%, 35% or any number we specify”.

European Union: The EU has stated that it is willing to accept a 10% universal duty on many of its exports, but it seeks exceptions for medicinal products, alcohol, semiconductors and aircraft under a trade agreement. Bessed said the US-EU talks will continue until the weekend. Trump has threatened a 50% duty on EU imports.

Canada: Canada has abolished the digital services tax that was to influence large US technology companies. The White House said the trade talks between the two countries have begun and are aimed at an agreement until mid -July.
