Garbage collection and treatment companies project a loss of R$ 800 million for the year, according to the National Union of Urban Cleaning Companies.
The estimate considers the inflation accumulated in the last 14 months and Petrobras’ mega-increase on diesel. According to the entity, fuel expenses account for 8% of the sector’s operating costs.
Márcio Matheus, president of the union, says that the companies do not intend to stop their activities, but have advocated a monthly review of contracts instead of an annual one.
The entity also suggests that municipalities subsidize the difference in rates, in addition to a temporary tax exemption.
