A new Public and Private Partnership Project (PPP), the implementation of three integrated recycling and waste recovery units in Syros, Paros and Mykonos and a Waste Transfer Station (SMA) on the island of Tinos, with a total budget of € 157.2 million. September.

The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanassis, was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Theodoros Livanios, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Dimas, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. for the coordination of the government work Mr. Akis Skertsos.

The teleconference was attended by the South Aegean Regional Governor and President of the Union of Regions of Greece, Mr. George Chatzimarkos, the Secretary General of Waste Management Coordination Mr. Manolis Grafakos and the head of the PPP Unit Mr. Nikos Sergis.

In particular, the project approved is:

“Infrastructure of Transfer and Processing (Recycling, Recovery) Waste in the N. Aegean Region through PPP”. This project covers a period of up to 27 years, of which 2 years are estimated to have the construction period and 25 of the operation.

It is reported that the problematic situation in the management of solid waste has already had significant negative consequences in a variety of areas of life in the wider region. For this reason, the creation of modern and well -organized waste treatment plants at regional level is considered to be direct priority.

The necessity of the project is based on the directions of national law, which emphasize the reduction of burial quantities, the reduction of environmental impacts through the processing of bio -waste, and the production of utilities or energy products. Also, this exploitation can bring economic benefits and enhance the sustainable use of natural resources, contributing overall to improve the environmental and social balance of the area.

The proposed project, which is part of the National Waste Management Planning, aims to align waste management in the region with the environmental management framework.
