The issue of protecting borrowers in Swiss francs is expected to be discussed with the European Parliament’s reports next November, at the initiative of PASOK MEP and Vice -President of the Group of European Socialists and Democrats (S&D), Professor Yiannis.

As stated in a related announcement, the proposal for an urgent hearing of reports submitted by Swiss francs loans was voted in favor at the initiative of Mr Maniatis. These reports relate to issues of legality and possible violations of European law on abusive terms in consumer conventions.

This development, according to Mr Maniatis, is creating prospects for resolving the impasse that has been about 80,000 borrowers called upon to repay highly burdened loans due to the significant reconstruction of the Swiss franc.

Mr. Maniatis stresses that “The attitude of the New Democracy and the European People’s Party is provocative. They stubbornly refuse to protect one of the weakest social groups, for the sake of overtly banks’ profitability. “. It also highlights that “PASOK has proven that it has been next to our most vulnerable fellow citizens, who are once again dealing with the impotence and reluctance of the government.”.
