Jet Airways, an Indian low-cost airline that suspended its activities in 2019 and is currently restructuring, presented its crew team, which will be part of the certification flights.
One aspect drew attention to this fact, since the group presented was composed only of women, without any male crew. In view of the repercussion given to this fact, information emerges that justify the reason for the airline to choose only one gender in its cabin crew at this time.
As strange as it may seem, the company explained that it made this decision to save money on hotel costs on overnight stopovers.
Under the plans, flight attendants will share hotel rooms as part of extreme cost-saving measures.
By hiring male and female crew, you would risk the airline having to spend extra money for single hotel rooms.
When asked on Twitter on Tuesday about the lack of flight attendants, new chief executive Sanjiv Kapoor said: “The male cabin crew will also be hired once we reach a certain operational scale, to optimize hotel costs etc. Same as my previous airline. Thank you.”
In another question, a user of the chain asks the executive about how the hotel’s costs would be optimized by not having a male crew. In response, Kapoor says, “The crew shares rooms – 2 to a room. We need to have some scale before we can optimize sharing.”
Jet Airways plans to compete in India’s ultra-competitive aviation market by offering a hybrid model with a full-service business-class cabin at the front of the plane, but a low-cost offer with in-flight food and beverage in economy class.
