President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Tuesday (3) that he was right to summon 625 new agents from the PF (Federal Police) and the same number from the PRF (Federal Highway Police).
The number was below the expectation created by the president himself the day before, when he signaled that he could open up to a thousand vacancies for each career this year.
“Yesterday, 625 more places were agreed for each force. That’s what we could do with PLN 1 [projeto que abriu crédito para gastos com pessoal]”, Bolsonaro told supporters this morning.
“The others will have another opportunity [para chamar] maybe this year ending elections”, he said, still in front of Palácio da Alvorada. The statement was released by a Bolsonarista page on YouTube.
Bolsonaro’s repeated unfulfilled promises have displeased the entities that represent PF agents.
“Everything that was possible I did, including you are already surplus”, said Bolsonaro.
The president is also under pressure from several categories of the public service that demand salary readjustments. Central Bank servers resume the indefinite strike from this Tuesday (3).
Bolsonaro’s idea was to grant readjustments only to agents of the PF, PRF and Depen (National Penitentiary Department), but he backed off and is studying a linear increase of 5% for federal servants.
This percentage “displeases everyone”, but it is possible, acknowledged Bolsonaro himself in the last week.
On Monday (2), Bolsonaro called the Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, in front of supporters, and asked for an “additive” to expand the vacancies for the PF and PRF.
Bolsonaro had said, on more than one occasion, that the government would be able to summon 500 agents from each career this year. He signaled that this number could double during the call.
“Do you have the ability [de] pass to a thousand each? Do you think it can be resolved? So make an additive, ask for a thousand spaces, since you are at your limit, for a thousand spaces for each side. Could it be?”, Bolsonaro told the Minister of Justice by phone.
In the call, the president also asked Torres to talk to the Economy about increasing police vacancies.
Under pressure, Bolsonaro has avoided criticism from servers who demand readjustments and career restructuring.
“I put the problem on the table. Let’s go, I’m now waiting for your suggestions”, said the president in an interview with the Metrópole FM radio station, in Cuiabá (MT), on the 29th.
In the same speech, Bolsonaro said that he is studying equalizing the career ceiling of federal highway police officers and federal police officers.
“How are the Federal Police going to behave? Are they going to say they are against it? Go on strike? I ask everyone who is listening to me: put yourself in my place, present alternatives,” the president told the radio.
“I want to help all servers in Brazil, I’ve always defended the readjustment. But there’s no way to give more than we have at the moment [5%]costs R$ 7 billion”, he also declared last week.

The 2022 Budget has only reserved the amount of R$ 1.7 billion for readjustments or restructuring of civil servants’ careers this year. Bolsonaro’s idea was only to privilege police officers.
The total cost of the 5% linear adjustment is estimated at R$7.9 billion in 2022, which will force budget cuts in other areas.
