Today, the Commission implements the first concrete action of the new strategy for the outermost regions of the EU, adopted yesterday, with a € 1 million call for proposals to help local youth draw up regional development plans. their.

Cohesion and Reform Commissioner Eliza Ferreira said: “Young people can be agents of change, entrepreneurs and innovators in their local communities. We need the vision, the commitment and the participation of young people to shape the future of the EU, leaving no one and no region on the sidelines.

We want to give the youth of the outermost regions the opportunity to create their own future. “This is an opportunity to develop actions that will offer great benefits to these particularly remote and vulnerable areas.”

This call for proposals is the first step in a two-year project which, in the framework of the European Youth Year 2022, will support at least 70 actions for young people aged 15-24. An entity located in a remote area will be selected, which will be responsible for the implementation of the project. The aim is to help young people in these vulnerable and remote areas develop actions tailored to their regions to improve quality of life, progress and development. Young people need to develop ideas and actions that benefit their communities and relate to EU priorities such as green and digital transitions, socio-economic recovery, equality and inclusion.

An invitation to action will be published this year, so that young people can benefit from these grants. More details are available here.
