Satisfaction, but also market reservations about the measures to reduce electricity bills

by

Much of the shock they caused to society and entrepreneurship the consequences of the energy crisis comes to absorb the quadruple government intervention as commented by representatives of traders and small and medium-sized enterprises.

At the same time they demand, the government, to continue to put pressure on our European partnersto give immediately and one common European solution to this major problem, while the Athens Chamber of Commerce agrees that the measures are positive but waiting to be given “adequate specifications and clarifications around the new support grid, mainly in relation to government interventions to suspend – as it characterizes – the adjustment clause».

Karanikas: The package of measures can restore the calm that the market needs

Its president Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship George Karanikas stated for measures to halt the effects of the energy crisis: «The quadruple government intervention comes to absorb much of the shocks caused to society and entrepreneurship by the effects of the energy crisis. The fact that from July and for a year is established “Indirect ceiling” in the price of electricity suspending in practice the adjustment clause is an affirmative and substantial response to the persistent request of the commercial world and the ESEE. We do not forget that in addition to energy costs, the Inflationary pressures increase the overall cost of living citizens and will continue to test the resilience of vulnerable households and the viability of thousands of businesses. However, beyond any doubt, the overall package of measures announced by the Prime Minister – with the retroactive return to consumers of most of the additional charges, covering 50% of the charge in May and June for consumption of even more than 300 kilowatt hours, as well as the taxation of 90% of the profits of energy companies – can restore the calm that the market needs. It is also important that Government announcements do not link the implementation of the interventions with any EU decisions. In any case, the pressure from all Member States on the institutions of the European Union must be intensified for a comprehensive, “brave” and long-term solution to support the citizens and businesses of the old continent.».

Hatzitheodosiou: We welcome the measures but further clarifications are needed and mainly immediate implementation

Its president Athens Chamber of Commerce Giannis Chatzitheodosiou stated: «The interventions announced by the government to address the price increases in electricity prices are certainly positive. They increase the number of consumers who will benefithouseholds are more supported and the intention to stop the excessive burden from the adjustment clause is obvious.

This development justifies the positions of the Athens Chamber of Commerce that had asked, since the beginning of the energy crisis, for a political solution to the problem. Until recently, government officials argued that there was no budget for other interventions. Eventually it seemed to exist, just no such decision had been made. Now, under the pressure of developments and large increases that are upsetting household and business budgets and putting suffocating pressure, the government has realized that it can not be left alone with low-consumption subsidies.

So the key question that arises is because we had to get to this point and not have these measures taken much earlier.

We also consider that insufficient specifications and clarifications have been provided around the new support grid, mainly in what has to do with the government’s interventions to suspend – as it characterizes it – the adjustment clause. Why, for example, should we wait until July for this intervention to take effect? And if it’s something that will actually work for the benefit of consumers, why not talk about making the measure permanent?

We call on the government to exercise more pressure on the EU to make it clear to partners that this policy of obstruction can not continue which leads to their borders the smaller economies of Europe, such as the Greek one.

Regarding the taxation of the super profits of energy companies, I estimate that a significant period of time will be required for RAE’s conclusion. Until then, however, it is necessary for them to exist intensive controls by the State to prevent any possible speculative intentions.

Finally, we remind you that the problem of households and businesses is not only energy prices but overall the increased cost of living. It is something that can be seen in the inflation that is preparing to “run” with a double-digit percentage. Therefore, there is an urgent need for targeted measures in this direction as well I restore the ESA proposal for a reduction of VAT from 13% to 6%, on basic goods.

Society is already suffering from the wave of precision and with it – as a living part – small and medium enterprises are groaning. We consider it imperative to draw up a holistic plan for dealing with the new crisis, so that we do not rush to correct the wrong texts after a holiday.».

Kollias: Breath for all measures

On the occasion of the announcements and the specialization of the measures for the reduction of energy costs and its president Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Konstantinos Kollias, made a statement noting the following:

«The measures announced by the government to alleviate households and businesses from increased energy costs, are undoubtedly moving in the right direction.

They are a breath of fresh air for everyone, focusing mainly on low and middle incomes, in a period of significant volatility, where everyday life is particularly difficult, both for households – which are also called upon to manage increases in commodities – and for businesses. which try to find the golden section and with the increases in raw materials.

In any case, the current period requires constant vigilance, zero room for complacency and constant monitoring of dataas they are formed for the Greek economy, households and businesses.

It is more than self-evident that our country is turning to alternative energy sources, and the strengthening of its energy autonomy.

At the same time, the government must continue to put pressure on our European partners to provide a common European solution to this major problem immediately.

Until then, it is called to show the maximum possible flexibility and adaptation to these difficult and unprecedented conditions, in order to reduce as much as possible the weight from the backs of households and businesses.».
