Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears continues to give trouble to the singer’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart. Six months after successfully revoking Jamie’s legal control over Britney since 2008, Mathew now accuses him of “running and hiding” from his testimony, which would be impeding the legal battle.
“Despite his demonstrably false claims that he has ‘nothing to hide’ James P. Spears is on the run and hiding from his testimony,” Rosengart wrote in documents accessed by Page Six. The motion to compel Jamie’s testimony provides a list of his alleged misconduct while acting as Britney’s curator. According to the survey, for example, he would have tapped his daughter’s room to record their conversations.
The lawyer also accuses Jamie of purposefully continuing to “harass and intimidate” the singer. “For self-interest (and, we claim, immoral) reasons, Mr. Spears appears intent on harassing and intimidating his daughter, while blocking and obfuscating the facts. This must stop,” he states in the documents. “Please willingly do what’s right. Be decent, leave your daughter alone.”
After getting rid of Jamie and her guardianship, in November 2021 – after 13 years with no autonomy over her and her fortune of more than 60 million dollars – Britney vowed to take revenge on the family. In June of that year, she told the court that she was forced by her father to enter a mental health center and insert an IUD contraceptive.
On the same occasion, he classified as “abusive and embarrassing” the court decision that allowed the father to continue in control of his life, and declared that he wanted to see him arrested. Jamie denied the abuse allegations at the time. “Mr. Spears is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter and misses her greatly,” he said in a statement released by his lawyers.
