Johnny Depp x Amber Heard: Actress holds back tears while reading the verdict

by

The legal battle between Amber Heard, 36, and Johnny Depp, 58, came to an end this Wednesday (1st). The jury, made up of seven people, was supposed to decide whether the actress defamed her ex-husband, and, while reading the verdict with answers in favor of the actor, Heard held back tears while in court.

The group, made up of five men and two women, determined that Heard will have to pay Depp a compensation in the amount of US$ 15 million, about R$ 71.9 million, for defamation. They spent more than 14 hours in deliberations.

Jurors had to answer eight questions to determine whether the actress had defamed her ex-husband. The decision was unanimous and established that Heard actually defamed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor when writing the editorial for The Washington Post.

The jury was composed of men and women; whites, blacks and Asians; between 20 and 50 years. They were chosen because they were considered exempt by the lawyers of both teams. Judge Penney Azcarate has granted Amber Heard’s request and ruled that the identities of these seven people will be kept secret for a year.

Depp was asking Heard for $50 million for an opinion piece that the actress published in an editorial for The Washington Post in December 2018, in which she describes herself as a “public figure who represents domestic abuse”.

In a counter-accusation, Heard asked for US$100 million, claiming to have suffered “unrestrained physical violence and abuse”. The two started dating in 2011, got married in 2015 and the following year they filed for divorce, finalized only in 2017.
