The Release Athens started in 2016 and since then it is one of the most important musical events that take place in the summer in Athens, but also in all of Greece, with the main venue being Water Square, a wonderful place located by the sea and at the same time a few minutes away from the city center.

With the main slogan of extroversion and optimism, in spite of the difficult times during which he was born, he gave new life to the concert events, actively believing in the liberating power of music, from which, after all, he took his name.

Release Athens welcomes the dark Bauhaus legends, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Water Square.

The 4 original members, Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins and David J, bring to life a band-symbol for Gothic Rock (and not only). With them, two really great bands, Jesus and Mary Chain and dEUS, in an evening that will open this year’s festival in the most emphatic way.

The Bauhaus have been a point of reference for the contemporary music scene almost since their inception in 1978 in Northampton, England. Flurrying and, at the same time, dazzling, they gave the post-punk era an even more ominous sound but also a broader artistic vision. It was rock, with strong doses of glam, funk, new wave, avant-garde, with influences even from the reggae-dub stream.

Their records and “dramatic” concerts defined their careers and musical genres, creating armies of loyal fans and making them one of the most influential names in the history of rock music.

The resumption of their concerts in November, in Mexico, London and New York, was the ultimate triumph. «Tonight, we saw the continuation of the legend“, The press wrote about the sold out appearances they gave in front of the ecstatic audience.

The dEUS were formed in 1991 in Antwerp and although they started as a band that would play exclusively covers, they soon began writing their own material. With influences ranging from Frank Zappa to Charles Mingus jazz, the dEUS made a splash with the release of their debut, “Worst Case Scenario”, which was adored by the music press as a whole, and quickly gained a fan base.
