The family of actor Ricardo Dantas, 63, created an online kit to raise money to pay for the artist’s medical treatment. He suffered a heart attack in August, underwent highly complex surgery and had a serious infection.
Gui Dantas, nephew of the actor, said that he was finishing his participation in the recordings of a soap opera when he suffered an acute myocardial infarction. According to him, Dantas underwent urgent angioplasty and after a series of complications in 42 days of hospitalization.
The actor’s nephew explained that he underwent a very delicate surgery to correct two dangerous ventricular fissures in the heart with a high death rate. “A bypass graft was also implanted, which caused a very serious infection in the left thigh, which evolved into renal complications, totaling 3 months of hospitalization.”
According to the family, Dantas was discharged with numerous physical limitations and needs multiple care, expensive medicines to prevent a new heart attack and a specific bandage for the thigh, which costs around R$1,000. “They are not provided by the SUS, in addition to essential examinations and consultations that public health does not provide”, says the nephew.
Gui Dantas stated that the category of actors was one of the most affected by the pandemic and that it is natural that his uncle’s reserves were at an end. According to him, the actor should be away from work for some time with an essential post-infarction treatment to regain health.
“He’s still at risk, there are rent and food costs to be paid regularly which have been causing a lot of anguish in all of us, as he needs to keep the structure to a minimum to focus on his recovery.”
