by

Dads celebrate every year on the third Sunday of June in many countries around the world, including Greece, although in some countries the date may vary.

Father’s Day, or as we have called it “Father’s feast”is the global holiday that honors dads around the world. Thus, Google dedicates its current logo to the “first heroes” of children.

It is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June in many countries worldwide, including Greece, although in some countries the date may vary.

But how was it established? The first historically known case of organized celebration of Father’s Day took place at Pharmont, West Virginia, United States July 5, 1908.

Organized by Grace Golden Clayton (Grace Golden Clayton), who wanted to celebrate in honor of the 210 dead fathers who lost their lives in a mine in the so-called Monongah Mining disaster a few months ago in Monongah, West Virginia, in December 1907.

The first bill that went to the US Congress and related to the formalization of Father’s Day in 1913 was voted down due to fears about the commercialization of the holiday.

After a few more failed attempts to highlight the holiday, In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential decree to officially honor fathers.and established the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day.

Six years later, in 1972, President Richard Nixon finalized the holiday as a permanent national holiday of the United States of America.

Celebrations of Father’s Day around the world
In Australia it is celebrated on the first Sunday of September, while the Church celebrates it with the Holy Spirit (a mobile holiday in June).

In Europe it ceased to be “father’s day” but is called “father’s feast” (fête des pères) starting from Germany which was directly connected with the family outing, the beer feast, etc.

In Greece, they established the holiday divorced fathers through the Association for Male and Paternal Dignity (SY.G.A.P.A.) by the founder Nikos Spitalas, due to the devaluation of the father by justice, in divorces. Thus, together with all Europeans, they celebrate every second Sunday in June when schools are still open to teach teachers the role and values of the father in the family.
