The problems of actress Amber Heard, 36, with justice are not over. Weeks after losing her defamation lawsuit to ex-husband Johnny Depp, 58, she is investigated for lying to a court in Australia.
Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment said in a statement that an investigation was underway into false allegations made by the actress who entered the country illegally with her two dogs in 2015. Heard declined to comment.
Heard and Depp were still married in May 2015 when she took her two dogs, Pistol and Boo, to Australia without declaring it despite the country having a strict quarantine policy. Yorkshire Terriers did not go through customs.
The case prompted Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce to threaten to euthanize the animals if they were not returned to the United States immediately. A few days later, the dogs returned to the US, but Australian authorities accused Amber of illegally importing animals in violation of the quarantine law and producing false documentation.
In July 2015, the actress was officially charged with illegally importing animals, but after pleading guilty to falsifying travel documents in court. The case was closed at that time.
Depp spoke about the incident in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September 2015. “We were under the impression that we had all the paperwork done for the dogs,” Depp explained at the time. “We were there with the dogs in front of everyone.”
In April 2016, Depp and Heard issued a video apology. She said she was “truly sorry” for not following the rules for declaring dogs.
