Sensitive striver: The personality aspect that adds pressure and stress

by

If you are empathetic and care about others around you, your performance, but also what others think of you, then your sensitivity can have a bad effect on your mental health

We are talking about those days when you feel like you have to give your best and do well in class, at work, in a “mission” of your own and triumph.

The feelings of the “sensitive striver” are something that everyone experiences to a greater or lesser extent as it has become part of the culture and western civilization, that is, to be ambitious and do everything in order to succeed.

It’s not enough to just be good, you have to be perfect, in your work, family, relationship, a model of success. All this of course adds pressure and stress and sometimes makes you forget your wants in order to satisfy your “acquired” goals.

Especially if you are empathetic and care about others around you, your performance and what others think of you then this sensitivity can have a bad effect on your mental health.

According to the leadership coach, Melody Wilding, sensitive strivers are people who always give 100% of themselves, in whatever they do, while being more creative, using the right hemisphere of their brain while being very focused, characteristics which allow them to learn easily and quickly while being particularly gifted and like teachers.

Empathy, the way you experience your emotions but also your caring about everything are often destructive as they don’t let you function but instead you fall into a magnifying glass of over-analysis for the smallest thing.

Being sensitive isn’t always a good thing, especially if it’s more important to you to please others by doing things that are likable and, by extension, can help you gain more acceptance.

Of course this inevitably leads to emotional burnout since the need to achieve perfection and get the desired results puts your own, personal happiness in second place and makes you neglect your own wants, what would make you truly happy.

So the need to have acceptance and to be successful by surpassing yourself many times can result in your mental as well as physical exhaustion and you set unrealistic goals for yourself in order to achieve the success and acceptance you want from your environment.

Thus, you sink deeper and deeper into your insecurities, the pressure and anxiety to succeed and appear worthy of expectations.

So if you often feel that you have to maintain the image that you want others to have of you by doing more and more, exhausting yourself and your strengths, maybe it’s time to take a break so that you can regroup and redefine your wants, your values, yourself.

Some tips that will help you on this journey are to write in a diary your thoughts, your goals, your wants, everything that concerns you, meditation and hypnotherapy. At The Holistic Awareness Center you will find various alternative treatments that will suit your needs and help you make your everyday life a little better, changing from the inside out. It is important to recognize your organization’s needs and manage them, whether with help or on your own.

After all, you can become the best version of yourself by changing what you don’t like, as long as you love and take care of you!
