Giovanni de Lorenzi, 26, talks with good humor about his unique experience with his character in “Poliana Moça” (SBT). In the children’s plot, he plays Luca Tuber and, right away, had to deal with the public’s disapproval.
That’s because in “As Aventuras de Poliana” (2018), a telenovela that preceded the current one, his role was played by João Guilherme, 20, who has a “giant, faithful and defender” fan base, in Lorenzi’s words. The actor – who calls himself “Luca Tuber from Shopee”, in reference to the shopping site – says he already expected to receive criticism and “hate” on the internet, mainly because he understands the public’s disapproval of the exchange of actors. “When the director [Ricardo Montoanelli] I said we were going to do something totally different than before, I just despaired more.”
He says that, despite the experience having marked his passage in the soap opera, today he is embraced by the public and used the criticism to make content on his social networks. Lorenzi makes videos reacting to his own scenes, “which for some actors is kind of hard, and it is.” In the logs, he jokes about the character’s look, aesthetics, and even the artist switch. “In the end, the public is quite right about a lot of things.”
Lorenzi made his television debut in the soap opera “Deus Salve o Rei” (Globo, 2018), in which he played Ulysses, and is in the cast of the series “Desalma” (Globoplay), as Maskym. In the latter, he plays alongside his girlfriend, actress Anna Mello, who plays the mysterious Halyna Lachovicz. “A curiosity, we met five years ago, it wasn’t in ‘Desalma’. It was a lot of coincidence”, says the artist.
Despite his experiences in series and soap operas, he reveals that his true passion is movies. “Cinema is a very deep and fast process. Maybe making soap operas is more like life, but it’s not possible to deliver the quality of a film or a series. There’s just no time. week”, explains in an interview with F5.
For the future, the actor classifies his career as a “madness, which goes from childish to horror and suspense”. He expects the premiere of the horror film “O Porão da Rua do Grito”, directed by Sabrina Greve, and also a return on the 3rd season of “Desalma”. “I’m going to do tests again,” he adds.
Below, Lorenzi tells about her career choice, main inspirations and more behind the scenes of “Desalma” and “Poliana Moça”. Check out edited excerpts from the conversation.
When did the idea of acting come about?
It was late, when I was studying for the entrance exam. He wanted chemical engineering or business. I was being totally pressured to choose something to do. I started studying Fuvest’s books and the teachers recommended pieces to see… and the first one I went to see was ‘Capitães da Areia’ and I really liked the lighting in the piece, I got hooked on it and started researching film lighting. In the process, I saw some interviews with actors, and then I thought: ‘I would do theater’. I studied theater with college… a month and a half of administration and I dropped out to do theater.
And do you have any acting inspiration?
I’ve always liked to do a more discreet way of acting, but to consume I like ‘crazy’ like Edward Norton, Leonardo DiCaprio… I don’t fit in very well doing what my references do. If it were my style, it would be more Benedict Cumberbatch – not in ‘Poliana Moça’, which is the exception of the exception. Here in Brazil I really like what Murilo Benício does, and Vladimir Brichta.
What difference do you see between the series and the movies?
After I did ‘Hard’, before ‘Desalma’, the series conquered a really cool place. It’s a lot like the movies, but you get to stay longer than in the movies, and the period between seasons allows you to distance yourself and then go back to that world. If you take a project you don’t like and it has three seasons, you’re screwed.
In the process of acceptance by the public in “Poliana Moça”, did João Guilherme help you in any way?
‘Poliana Moça’ is a roller coaster. When I heard about the audition, I didn’t know about ‘As Aventuras de Poliana’, nor that the audience was so faithful and strong. I was quite impressed with that. Entering the soap opera was complicated because I also discovered that the character was already being played by another actor. I know how boring it is to change the actor of a character you really like. I was this new actor. João Guilherme helped, he tweeted asking for calm, patience and affection with the actor who was taking his place.
