The foreign press echoed the support given by singer Anitta, 29, to the PT’s presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 76, on Monday afternoon (11). They highlighted that the aggressive stance of supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) led the singer to make the decision.

The American newspaper The Washington Post published an article on the website explaining that the singer surprised everyone by declaring that the assassination of PT leadership Marcelo Arruda convinced her to vote for Lula. According to the publication, many young people expressed a similar opinion on social media.

The Argentine newspaper Diario Hoy spoke of the singer’s support for Lula and the violent context in the country in which a PT militant was murdered. The publication also used phrases posted by the singer on Twitter and Lula’s response citing the song “Envolver”.

The Mexican 24-hour El Diário Sem Limites –the country where the singer was a judge on the local The Voice– said that Anitta is one of the most influential artists in Brazil with 62 million followers on Instagram and 20 million on TikTok. The article also recalled that she was charged in 2018 for a political position, but now after politically educating herself, she declared her vote for Lula.
