Actress and singer Maya Hawke, 24, from Stranger Things, released on Monday (18) the video for her newest single, “Thérèse”, in which she appears naked in scenes of orgy in the middle of a forest. The song is part of the album “Moss”, which will be released on September 23.
Directed by Brady Corbet, the music video shows the police interrupting an orgy that a group was having in a forest. In the film, people appear running in opposite directions and Maya and other women with their breasts exposed. After being caught, Maya’s character appears singing the song while she is handcuffed.
“Brady saw the video very clearly in his head, but I can’t imagine he could have guessed how well his idea fit with what I wanted to reveal and express about the song,” the singer told Dazed.
Hawke first met Corbet while auditioning for one of his movies a few years ago. Although she didn’t get the part, the pair became friends and made the decision to work on the music video for “Thérèse”. The duo drew inspiration from the work of Japanese photographer Kohei Yoshiyuki, who is best known for his series koen featuring photographs of people engaged in sexual activities at night in Tokyo parks.
“I hope people like it or hate it, or whatever. I hope it makes them feel something other than shame and self-hatred and loneliness. I think we’re all tired of feeling this way,” Maya said.
