Peter Moffat is writing the script, based on Andrew’s explosive interview with BBC Newsnight about his relationship with convicted sex offender Epstein.
His interview prince andrew inspired a series of questions for Moffat “What did he think he was doing? Who made him do it? Why, when the rest of the world was so horrified, did he think it had gone so well? What kind of man is he?’ he said himself.
“By researching the film and talking to those on the inside of this extraordinary story, I got the answers to all these questions. They provoke, often surprise, sometimes disturb, and I think they make for a compelling story about power and abuse and journalistic courage.”
THE interview of Prince Andrew with Maitlis aired in November 2019, just months after Epsteinthe wealthy financier who pleaded guilty to solicitation of minors in 2008 was found dead in his prison cell while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking. His death was ruled a suicide. The interview focused on Andrew’s relationship with Epstein and Virginia Giuffre’s allegations that Prince Andrew sexually abused her when she was a minor. (Prince Andrew settled with Giuffre out of court for a reported sum of more than £12 million.)
During the interview, Prince Andrew said he remained friends with Epstein even after his release because he was “too honest”. He also denied Giuffre’s claims, claiming he was with his children at Pizza Express the night of the alleged attack.
The interview was scrutinized and ridiculed by the public, and although it was believed to have been approved by Andrew’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Andrew was later stripped of his royal duties.
