Michael Jackson convinced the director of ‘Men in Black II’ not to cast him as an alien to wear the iconic black suit.

When the 1997 sci-fi comedy was released “Men in Black”, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, did “space numbers” at the box office. The film is about secret agents who track, and if necessary… brainstorm, extraterrestrial life forms on Earth, and it has found yet another fan: the King of Pop.

According to Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld, when it came time to work on the Men in Black II sequel, they received a call from Michael Jackson, who wanted to act in the film.

“He approached us,” Sonnenfeld told Insider in an interview for the original film’s 25th anniversary. The idea was for Jackson to make a brief appearance in “MiB II,” but Sonnenfeld’s original idea of ​​how he would appear in the film didn’t seem to work.

“I was going to make him an alien and he said, ‘No, I want to wear the Men in Black suit,'” the director recalled. So we figured out how to do that and it worked. He was wonderful.”

Jackson appears in the middle of the film. The singer, wearing the iconic MiB suit as he intended, appears on the big screen at the Men in Black headquarters from a location that appears to be filled with… penguins.

Speaking to Zed (played by Rip Thorne), head of MiB, Jackson asks him about a position he was promised, saying he might be “Agent M”. However, the leader of the organization finds a way to avoid being “recruited”…
