Two months after the end of the controversial trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, documents of the case are being released and one of them was the testimony of actress Ellen Barkin, 68. The ex-girlfriend testified in a video against the actor revealing that the star of the franchise ” Pirates of the Caribbean” would have given him drugs before sex. She claimed that Depp, 59, offered methaqualone, a sedative with a hypnotic capacity, the first time they had sex.
Barkin also said that the relationship lasted a few months in 1994 and that they even filmed the movie “Fear and Loathing” (1998). She said that during the time they were together, Depp was under the influence of alcohol. “He was drunk all the time, most of the time. He’s outrageous, verbally abusive and those things you can see,” pointed out Barkin, who became known for acting in productions like “If Women Had Wings” (1997), “Someone With You” (2001), “Men’s Thirteen and A New Secret” (2007), “Innocent Girls” (2013)), among others.
In his testimony at the trial, Barkin also described the actor as “a jealous, controlling man” who always questioned her with questions like “where are you going?”, “who are you going with?” and “what did you do last night?” “Once, he was very angry because I had a scratch on my back and insisted that it was because I had sex with someone other than him,” the actress shot.
Ellen recounted an incident while filming “Fear and Loathing” in Las Vegas, in which Depp threw a bottle of wine at her from across the hotel room where they were staying. The glass almost hit her and it was the last straw for her to end the relationship. “I don’t know why he threw the bottle, although Depp had an argument with friends or his assistant,” she commented;
Depp and Amber Heard met on the set of the movie “Diary of a Drunken Journalist” in 2011, and were married four years later – but split in May 2016, with a $7 million divorce settlement. The peace lasted until Heard wrote an article for The Washington Post in December 2018 claiming to be a survivor of domestic violence, without naming Depp.
After six weeks of trial, Depp was ordered to pay $2 million to his ex-wife for defamatory statements. The actress also ended up being punished and will have to compensate him in $ 10 million.
