The proposal to turn it into a “summer Davos” did not go ahead and so it remains with its inhabitants, which are the numerous hares.
Enjoy a flight over one unknown desertjust 1 hour from Athens, which the Ancient Greeks called Egilia. Today it has the name Styronisi and is located a breath away from the coast of Evia, opposite Nea Styra.
The specific island was the final preference of the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitris Mardas to turn into summer Davos. He had mentioned that the goal is to create there an Arts and Philosophy center and a conference center, where once a year, during the summer months, the heads of state will meet.
According to Mr. Marda’s proposal, the state’s ambition was to declare it an Island of Peace, Culture and Exchange of Ideas.
This proposal was never implemented and the island remains with its “residents”, who are numerous hares. We don’t know how they settled there, but they have managed to “take over” the island and you often meet them on its enchanting beaches.
It also has 2 small lakes that add a beautiful touch of color to the already exquisite landscape.
Enjoy the flight
